Why do we put things off? What are the real causes of procrastination? Well, don't look at me. I don't have all the answers, but Shakespeare's Hamlet just might offer the solutions to this age-old burden of humanity! There is a fine line between the prudence and wisdom that prevents us from acting in a reactionary or hasty fashion and the hesitancy that causes us to miss out on the bountiful opportunities that life lays out before us. In some cases, our hesitation can cause more than just regret; it can lead to circumstances that damage ourselves and the ones that we love and cherish. In any event, hesitation/procrastination represents a mystery that has plagued civilization since the beginning of time, and now it's our turn to tackle it! So what is the assignment, exactly? Your mission is to identify the four characteristics that enable Hamlet to overcome his hesitation and resolve the conflict of the play. By characteristics, I mean traits like courage, love, or intelligence. Oh shoot, I just gave some of them away! My invisible friend is going to harass me big time over that little slip up. It doesn't really matter; I completely trust your will to be fiercely independent thinkers and let your customized brilliance get the job done with vibrancy and style. So what are the parameters? Please write an essay that is 4-6 pages pages in length, that features an introduction, a sufficient number of paragraphs, and a conclusion. The introduction will feature an enumerative thesis that showcases the four characteristics that enable Hamlet to defeat his hesitation and resolve the conflict of the play. You will then write a sufficient number of supporting paragraphs, each focusing individually on the four characteristics presented in the thesis. Finally, you will create a conclusion that brings the essay to a close and re-iterates your original thesis from the introduction.
