The Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie TED talk entitled “ The Dangers of a Single Story”
This assignment asks you to engage in a cultural analysis of a literary work. In addressing the questions, you will need to synthesize your understanding of the short story you choose with your understanding of Adichie's talk.
Short story - “Jesus Shaves” by David Sedaris
In your paper, explain her warning in this talk. Give an example from the story you have read about cultures other than the one in which you were raised, and discuss how this story assured you that you will not suffer from the “dangers of a single story.”
What did you learn or become more aware of from the story? You must have at least one long quote and one short quote with MLA in-text citations. You will need a works cited page in MLA format as well. Your works cited page should have two entries: Adichie’s talk and the short story you choose to write about. Length is 2-3 pages in MLA format.
