A 65-year-old woman visited her internist for a health evaluation. She was informed that her lipid profile revealed hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia. Because of a family history of coronary artery disease, her physician recommended she begin drug and diet therapy. How could this information be further explained to the patient?
