Social Problem Description
This section describes the relevant social problem your selected statute/ policy seeks to address. It should be 150- to 250-words (one-half page) single- spaced. To best guide the reader, consider the use of bulleted items and/or "information boxes." Your submission should include the following information:
Social problem overview, including statistics that describe its impact
Unique elements of the social problem: starting at the national level and narrowing to the statewide, local, and/or regional levels
Policy Description, Goals and Objectives
Review your text, pages 99-100, for definitions of goals and objectives. Your selected policy may not explicitly discuss goals and objectives. Utilize critical analysis skills to interpret the goals and objectives. This section should be 800- to 1,000-word (less than two pages) single-spaced description of the policy goals and objectives and include the following information:
The official title of the statute as well as any acronym(s) or common references
Brief overview of the policy and how it relates to the identified social problem
Describe the policy's goals
Describe the objectives to reach the policy goals
Target Population and Program Eligibility
Discuss your selected policy's potential direct and indirect beneficiaries, and eligibility requirements. This section should be 800- to 1,000-word (less than two pages) single-spaced and include the following information:
Beneficiaries, both direct and indirect
Identify the eligibility requirements and specify whether they are universal or selective
Briefly analyze the eligibility requirements using the questions below.
While some policies do not include explicit eligibility criteria, they are intended to include or exclude certain populations.
How are potential beneficiaries, or those impacted by the policy, identified? Are they self-referred or referred by other agencies? Does the agency operate a formal outreach campaign?
Are there other population groups that could benefit from this program? If so, why are they excluded?
Are there similar policies elsewhere, locally, in other states or other countries? If so, are the eligibility criteria similar? If not, what are the differences and how would they impact this policy?
