The chapter on communication presents a model of the communication process and barriers that interfere with it, considers the challenges encountered in cross-cultural communication, looks at the flow of communication, and examines interpersonal communication. The chapter also presents some methods for overcoming communication barriers. Here is the discussion question: Think back to a time when you knew a manager, coach, or teacher/professor who was an exceptionally good communicator. Why was this person so effective at communication? Be specific and provide reasons for your selection. Describe what they did and compare it to the material presented in the text. (Chap. 13) Chapter 14 discusses decision making and alternatives to rational decision making. Specifically, bounded rationality appears to be a better explanation of how decision making actually occurs. What makes this better than a rational explanation of decision making? should intuition be used in decision making and if so, to what extent. Defend your response. Given all of the corporate scandals, including recent ones such as: Volkswagen, and Chrysler (recall issues), how important a role should ethics play in decision-making? Should leaders and managers, and organizations for that matter, be evaluated on the extent to which they make ethical decisions? (Chap. 14)
