Learning Goal: I'm working on a writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Students will write a 5-6-page, 6-11-paragraph argumentative research paper on Social Justice or another topic of choice. TOPICS WILL BE DISCUSSED AND CHOSEN IN CLASS.
1) The six-page minimum requirement does not include the References page.
Specific Details:
Students will:
write (i.e. type) the essay on the template: (attached)
insert a title related to the topic and position.
compose one introductory paragraph that includes topic background, a hook, and a thesis statement that includes the position and three points/reasons.
compose three body paragraphs that support each of the points/reasons of the thesis and in order, each of which includes a topic sentence.
one counterargument paragraph that includes both the counterargument (Stage 1) and the refutation (Stage 2).
compose one concluding paragraph that summarizes the essay's main points and reaffirms the strength of the argument by suggesting a course of action, describing future implications, or propose a possible solution.
revise the References page that was previously submitted to ensure that the sources as presented by the in-text citations are the only ones represented on the References page.
be responsible for addressing all items items highlighted by Turnitin that do not meet the paraphrasing criterial. Failure to address these items can result in a failing grade on this essay
NOTE: Good arguments use rhetorical appeals (logos, pathos, an ethos) to persuade. Students who successfully incorporate rhetorical appeals will be given 10 points of credit.
The content for this paper will also:
include 4-6 in-text citations from the sources on the related Annotated Bibliography; only 1 source may be quoted; all of the others must be paraphrases.
include a References page, and one that can be cross-referenced to the in-text citations.
