Hello everyone and welcome to Week #7 This week we will be looking at invasive species. An invasive species is an organism that has been moved either intentionally or accidentally to a new area, survives, and establishes a population. This non-native species out-compete native species and can play a number of harmful roles in this new environment. The invasive species are successful because generally there is no predator in this location. Check out this video for a general overview of the problems with invasive species: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUssO68D2eM Please choose an invasive species not mentioned in the video and answer the following questions. The questions will be turned in via the assignment section. a. Common and scientific name of the invasive species. b. Pictures of the invasive species c. Native range and its introduced region(s). d. General characteristics of the organism. In particular, what characteristics may be beneficial to the species as it invades new areas. e. Method of how the species was introduced into the new species. (This information may or may not be known). f. Describe the impact of invasive species on their new habitat. g. Describe what methods are being used or could be used to control the invasive species.
