Article summary
  • Provide a context for the article. Identify the title and author of the article and any pertinent background information about the author or the subject of the article. 


  • Identify the main gist of the article in two to three sentences. Show your reader that you understand the overall main idea of the article.


  • Offer the authors key points. 


  • Select a few examples from the article that the author uses to illustrates the supporting points and seamlessly integrate 1 or 2 relevant quoted passages from the article.


  • Use transitions to signal when youre moving from one of the authors points to another. Similarly, you should use transitions to alert readers to when youre going to offer examples from the article.


  • Not take a position on the subject matter of the article, not disagree or agree with the article, not pass judgement.
