The principal claims the school does not have the budget and that having other history books may make the other students uncomfortable. He denies their request and recommend they start a nonacademic club that is an option for any student to join. Is the Principal effectively addressing the girls learning needs and the school’s curriculum? Julian is a Black man, native of Haiti and lawful resident of the United States. Recently, Julian traveled to Haiti to visit family and on his return to the U.S., he was detained at the airport. The officers asked him a series of questions, such as: if he was involved with any terrorist organizations, why he was travelling during this time and other questions that are not standard. Is the government justified in their detainment? Do you believe Julian’s experience is a human rights issue? “An Asian woman has been raising her hand at a meeting of…feminists planning to protest the ‘glass ceiling’ in corporate management positions…when she is recognized she wants to know when the group will discuss the [oppressive conditions in the] garment industry. Is she being divisive?” –Delgado & Stefancic, 2017 Stacey identifies as a Trans woman. As Stacey was applying for housing assistance, the case worker claimed that her current I.D needed to match her birth certificate. Is the case worker being fair? A white male claims discrimination in the workplace because he is never invited to people of color-centered committees. On his new hire paperwork, he marked his race and gender category as white male. As part of his discrimination claim, he now states he has a “bit of” Hispanic in him. His co-worker Lisa, who identifies as a Latina woman disagrees with his discrimination claim on the basis that he has claimed and benefits from whiteness in ways that those who identify as people of color do not. Does he have a viable case?
